SPRUCE
Picea abies, tree of Pinaceae family.
Main features:
Coniferous soft wood, often called whitewood, is one of the most commonly used.
It is white or white/yellow in colour with clear grains, with a medium texture and regular fibre. Average volumic mass: 430 kg per m3.
Uses:
This easily processed wood is used to manufacture many products including furniture, furnishings, joinery, floors, and DIY products. Good results are achieved when it is coloured and varnished.

CLASSIFICATIONS
Grade AB/St. or AB/B: Top layer AB: mostly sound knots, isolated knots are dowelled, heart up to maximum 400 mm, occasional resin pockets, slight compression wood and slight colour variation might occur, gluing without defects, width of external strips 115 mm or more - Backing Standard or B: selected as per BC without blue stains.
Grade B: isolated black knots, slight discolourations and red-wood allowed, isolated small resin pockets not longer than 50 mm, isolated splits with through heart repaired for the entire length, gluing without defects.
Grade B/C: black knots and discolouration allowed, single resin pockets not longer than 5 mm, isolated splits repaired, red-wood and through heart for the entire possible length, gluing without defects, pluggings and fillings.
Backing C: no special quality specifications.
